Jag uppskattar när ni skickar mejl till oss på Gårdsbacken och berättar om Er själva och Era älskade husdjur. I dagens inlägg vill jag, självklart med tillåtelse av kaninen Dixis matte, visa en jättefin bild på just Dixi och en målning av honom.
Tyvärr finns inte Dixi i livet längre, men han blev nästan tretton år gammal. Han var en liten svart/vit Hermelinkanin och söt som socker och tydligen var han mycket speciell för sin familj. Bilden visar en målning av Dixi på familjens husgrund gjord av Kirke Ralph, en engelsk dekorationskonstnär som gjort många verklighetstrogna målningar runt om i södra Sverige.

Är den inte fin, målningen? Och som matte till Dixi berättade; "Jag känner nästan för att ta in honom nu när det är så kallt ute" Så verkligehetstrogen känns den alltså... :)) Förmodligen blir det Champis, vallandes några får på vårt husgrund till sommaren... :))

What a good looking bunny was Dixi! And a beautiful likeness in the mural by Kirke Ralph.
SvaraRaderaThe American Rabbit Breeders Association website lists their 47 recognized breeds, and pictures of each. Many different body types, coats, ears and colors! I had no idea there was such a variety, and that's just this one association. I am convinced you have the best bunny in the world in Champis.
Paula, do you have barn cats to keep the mouse population from being troublesome, or is that not a problem for you?

SvaraRaderaOh jisses, 47 different kind of breeds, I didn't know that. I'm sure it's a very big different between the biggest and the smallest breed. Champis weight is one and a half kilo, but there are for sure breeds that are much smaller.
Unfortunately, I'm a little bit allergic to cats, even though I grow up with cats, and I'm certain that if we get a barn cat we would let the cat in the house if the weather is bad and it's cold outside.
Concerning the mouse/rat issue aren't that any problem for us. I think the dogs keeps the mouses away just like cats do, the differenses are just that the dogs doesn't eat the mouses, just chase them away. And I think that the mouses doesn't like to live there dogs runs around every day. At summertime, we cut the gras around the barn really careful so the mouses doesn't like the environment so much... :))
